What is
Enchantment?

Enchantment is not technically an independent form of magic. It is the craft of capturing another magic, storing it in a nonliving vessel and releasing it at a later time.

02 / Canonical record

Principles,
practice
& consequences.

The three acts

  • Capture a magical working
  • Store it inside a nonliving material
  • Release it later

Stone Sorcery

The earliest practitioners called the craft Stone Sorcery because Sorcery was then the only recognized magic. The name reflected early theory, not Enchantment's actual ability to contain almost any magical form.

Discovery

Enchantment entered the Cube through the Nephilim at the beginning of the Age of Convergence. It was known to the Nephilim and Irin before the Irin taught it to the Koran.

Further into
Enchantment.

The Aleknath limit

Enchantment requires nonliving matter. Everything native to Aleknath is alive, so enchanted objects can be imported and used there but the craft has almost no native material from which to produce, repair or expand its systems.

Before Elementalism

Early enchanters captured fire, electricity and other phenomena before their deeper elemental source was formally understood. A force could be stored before its true metaphysics were known.
